THE PLAY THE BELLE OF AMHERST by William Luce is a moving portrayal of the reclusive 19th-Century poet Emily Dickinson that takes place in her home in Amherst, Massachusetts. The poet recollects her past through her work, letters and encounters with significant people in her life. Dickinson is imaginatively crafted by the playwright in this intimate one-person, two-act play. The poet is confiding her creative process and daily life directly to the audience. They are treated to her piercing wit and revolutionary literary artistry, revealing the striking beauty and universal truths that inhabit her work, as well as the joy and pain of Dickinson's secluded life. THE PERFORMER NINA LEVINE plays Emily Dickinson. As co-founder of an award-winning theatrical clown trio, and a seasoned solo performer, Nina brings to life the character of Emily Dickinson with humor and poignancy, giving audiences a refuge from the incessant beckoning of electronic devices of the 21st Century. The real life historical figure and her groundbreaking poetry inspired Nina to pursue this production. It is a beautiful portrait of this enigmatic artist who needs to be recalled and celebrated in these troubled times.
