Nina Levine, Evelyn Tuths, and Holly McCracken are the theatrical clown trio Those In The Nose. Three brilliantly silly women clowns create and perform original material in group and solo formats. Drawing on the traditions of European clowning, vaudeville, silent film, as well as their own previous theatrical and musical experience, the company brings a unique expression to this venerable form of theatre. There is always an element of improvisation within the structured acts. It is the company’s aim to give the audience an unplugged theatrical experience, encouraging the art of the belly laugh and howls of pure joy.
Appearances include: The New York Theatre Clown Festival, Mainstage Gala (International Festival Pallasses, Andorra, Europe under the Direction of Angela DeCastro); Carnegie Hall’s Cami Opera Recital Hall, The Red Room, Wolfe Trap Family Farm in Virginia, MCC Theatre, La Mama ETC, West Bank Cafe and Currican Theatre; Surf Reality; Moonwork, Cornelia Street Cafe; Dixon Place; The Metropolitan Cafe; One Dream Theatre and The New York Downtown Clown Revue (Golden Nose Award recipients for Audience Choice Best Clown Act, At The Opera; nomination for Audience Choice Best Clown/Group). Their show Bing Bang Booom! was awarded “Most Unusual Food Containers” at the New York International Fringe Festival. Other venues include benefits and private functions. Company members have all appeared in film and television as well.
The Company conducts workshops for children and adults in a supportive and productive environment for this specific theatrical work to be explored and developed. Teaching credits include: CancerCare for Kids, New York University, Marymount Manhattan College, Biz Kids, Friends Seminary, Pebblebrook High School (Mableton, GA), NY International Fringe Festival Workshop, NY Goofs Ultimate Clown School, The Screen Actors Guild Young Performers Committee, The Creative Center for Arts in Healthcare, Gilda's Club of New York, Continuum Hospice Care, Hunter College School of Social Work, Arts at the Bedside Organization, The Oratorio Society of New York, and The School of Visual Arts.
It is heartening to see the tradition of female clowns revived. Indeed, it is not going too far to say that it is being reinvented. ~WBAI-FM Review of TITN's "Hats & Feats"
